Introduction
Blueberries are perennial flowering plants with indigo-colored berries
from the section Cyanococcus within the genus Vaccinium
Species in the section Cyanococcus are the most common. fruits sold as
"blueberries" and are native to North America
The genus Vaccinium has a mostly circumpolar distribution, with species
mainly being present in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
Many commercially sold species with English common names
including "blueberry" are currently classified in section
Cyanococcus of the genus Vaccinium Several other wild shrubs of the genus Vaccinium also produce
commonly eaten blue berries
Blueberry is famous as a tasty snack and ingredient in many desserts,
but it is also an effective nutritional and medicinal supplement.
Recent reports indicate that a compound, used by Blueberries and Grapes
to fight off fungal infections, could also help lower cholesterol.
The compound, called pterostilbene, also helps regulate blood sugar
